This is the latest update on the despicable act of Russia to shut off the essential supply of gas to Ukraine in the middle of Winter when the elderly and children are at their most vulnerable.  Russia has tried to levy unreasonable, and unfair prices for this essential fuel causing this crisis.

There is a disparity between the price the Ukraine is being asked to pay for the gas, and the price all the previous Soviet Union member states are paying.  The Russian government continues to charge exorbitant prices to the Ukraine and this has resulted in a $614Million debt, which is a direct result of these unfair pricing policies of the Russian government.  The latest news is that Ukraine is being forced to pay from January 11th, the same price for Gas as European countries which is twice the price they were paying before, which is totally beyond comprehension.  How can this be fair and reasonable, when a developing country like the Ukraine does not have the same economic strength of european nations to afford this.

Ukraine is a new country, with an emerging economy which needs support as it tries to join the European community and all these acts of Russia are designed to undermine this move away from the Soveit bloc countries.  It is time people spoke up against Russia, and this bullying tactics they deploy to dominate weaker neighbouring countries by economic and armed means.  Russia is not doing anything to gain any popularity in the West with this kind of behaviour and European Nations should not allow Russia to get away with this continued domination in the region.

After Russia cut off gas supplies to its neighbour Ukraine, ordinary Ukrainians have expressed their fears for the future.  This is another report, this time from CCTV about Russia shutting off the gas supply to the Ukraine.

This is not a new problem, Russia seems to do this routinely each year, throwing its weight about.  This is a report from Russia Today dated February 12th 2008, and you can see last year they were doing the same thing.  In this report from the russian news agency, the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine announced a deal over gas, which will ensure supplies are not cut-off and the two presidents agreed a pattern for co-operation, which clearly has not lasted.
