Fears are growing of a global pandemic, with new infections of swine flu in the United States (20 confirmed cases) and Canada and possible cases in Europe, Israel and New Zealand. First swine flu cases confirmed in UK for two people in Scotland who have returned from holiday in Mexico City as shown in the next video footage. Both individuals recovering, further 7 people out of 20 in contact with the two people have developed mild symptoms.

US President Barack Obama has moved to calm fears over the swine flu outbreak which has killed more than 100 people in Mexico and spread to several other countries. There now are 20 confirmed cases in the US, with six in Canada and one in Spain - the first case in Europe.

The European Union has called an emergency meeting for Thursday to evaluate the threat posed by the swine flu outbreak emanating from Mexico. The news came as the Spanish government Monday confirmed a case of swine flu in a man recently returned from Mexico, making it the first recorded case in Europe for the outbreak. EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou speaks about avoiding trips to know areas affected by swine flu.
